                       Mike Force Morrow
       (by  Michael A. Cessna, clinkerbuilt@hotmail.com)

    Formed as an adjunct to the Phoenix Team (PF008), Mike force
Morrow (MFM) was one of the last two major parts of the Project
(the other was the Replacement Teams) to be completed.
    Just as the Phoenix Team was to 'internally police' the
Project, MFM was to provide a modicum of 'military' support.
    Beginning in 1971, the Project began recruiting a small
number (about 20) of US Army Special Forces veterans. These men
were to act as instructors, forming a cadre that became, in all
but name, the 'Morrow Special Forces Group'.
    The training program began in the early 1980's. Selected
Morrow recruits were formed into 'mega-A-Teams'. These were
twenty-five men strong: a 'standard' twelve-man 'A-Team', a
three-man communications team, a five-man medical unit, and a
five-man command section, containing specialists in psychology,
recruitment, and 'motivational speaking'.
    The object of the MFM project was to rapidly recruit, arm and
train a number of 'light-infantry' 'battalions' from survivor
groups. Adhering to 'general Morrow philosophy', and commanded
by Project personnel, answerable only to the Regional Commander,
or Prime Base, the units could provide a trained, visible force
to help reestablish local order. At the same time, they would be
able to undertake missions otherwise unperformable by MARS Teams,
due to their small size, thus forming a bridge between the
extremes of the Projects primary Team's, and the Phoenix Team.
    These factors were seen to outweigh the 'featherweight'
nature of the units armament.

    A total of four MFM Teams were emplaced, to cover six regions
(Project planners wrote off the other two regions as either too
target-rich, or too desolate). The Teams were emplaced in the
general vicinity of small, rural communities, in areas likely to
have survivor relocation camps. The Team Commander had the
location, and identity of at least one local cadre member to look
for when awakened.
    When the last team had been trained and emplaced, the
training cadre split up, and 'went native' in the nearby
communities, "working for Morrow Industries". In the event that
they survived the War, they would report to both Prime Base, and
the Team Commander upon wake-up. while none of the cadre knew any
wake-up codes, they did know the general location of the teams'
base.

    The MFM base is a highly unconventional bolt hole, in that it
is specifically designed NOT to be abandoned.
    The Base complex consists of a number of small rooms: a small
room, containing the Teams' freeze tubes, and personal
equipment(the Teams personal weapons, for continuity with the
rest of the cache, are M14's and MAG-58's); a central 'meeting
room', containing the base computer system, communications
equipment, and detailed (paper) topographical maps of the local
area (this area would function as the main battalion command
post); an arms room with the following weapons:

     1500  M1 Garand rifles(use the stats from PF003 'Lucifer',
but change caliber to 7.62x51mm NATO, and E-Factor to 17);
bayonets, slings and cleaning kit are included

     200 MAG-58's (w/ 50 tripod mounts)
     50 HP-35's (w/ two mags ea, and holsters)
     6 M2HB .50cal HMG's (/w tripods)
     10 60mm mortars
     4 81mm mortars;

an ammunition room with the following ammo:

     500,000 rnds 7.62x51mm, in 8-rnd 'en-bloc' clips
     2 million rnds 7.62x51mm, linked
     100,000 rnds .50cal, various types (PD discretion)
     3,000 rnds 60mm, various types
     1,000 rnds 81mm, various types
     5,000 rnds 9mm (for pistols);
     1,000 M18A1 Claymore mines
(a number of cases of grenades of various types, to be determined
by the PD)

two 'supply rooms', containing:

     2500 sets MFM Basic Issue(1 ALICE pack; 2 pr OD coveralls;
     1 cartridge belt & suspenders(w/ pouches for M1 clips;
     1 buttpack; 2 canteens, w/ covers & cups; 1 E-tool; 1 1st
     aid kit; 1 w/w poncho, w/ liner; 1 steel helmet (the 'Steel
     Pot'), w/ liner & cover; 1'mess kit'(contains knife, fork &
     spoon); 1 toilet kit(straight razor, mirror, comb &
     washcloth)--in separate boxes
     1 ea Hand-operated mimeograph machine, w/ paper & ink
     1 ea Barber kit
     1 ea Battalion Aid Station equipment
     Various numbers of 'field desks, with simple admin forms (to
     give the impression of a 'real' army)

     The Team, as is obvious from this list was intended to
operate from their base.
     Upon wake-up, the Team, unless ordered differently by Prime
Base, would try to locate the local cadre member, to gain updated
intelligence on the local situation. If that person was dead, the
Team would make its own assessment, and begin recruiting, or try
to contact higher headquarters for instructions.

    Obviously, PD's are advised to exercise extreme caution in
waking up one of the three remaining Teams, as their presence
will wildly unbalance almost every campaign.
     Used properly, Mike Force Morrow can advance the goals of
the project by leaps and bounds.
    But, on the other hand.............

    In the next article, we will look at one MFM that didn't work
out quite the way the Planners had intended.
